While aimlessly poking around in an effort to avoid doing actual work, I revisited an old link to an author whose stories I have reread several times over and for the first time, actually paid attention to her notes. I was surprised to learn that she credits the inspiration for one of her fics to something Asidian put out last year, and it hit me for the first time that Asidian is really one of the quintessential writers of Yamidom. It was something of a shock, because the woman is just so damn nice. (Perhaps that’s just my sparkling personality influencing our discussions, but somehow I doubt it.)

The more I think about it, the more it makes sense. She’s been around since June of last year, which is a hell of a long time for a fandom that seems to be a side project for most authors, and she’s been writing nothing but Yami since. (Yay that, I say.) I don’t think there’s anyone out there who hasn’t run across her writing.

With the exception of the remarkably long bout of uber angst The Rest of Forever (And let me take a moment to say that I do so love that title), most of her fics are chock full of feel-good-ness, which is massively appreciated in a fandom whose major themes revolve around the concepts of NCS, suicide, and emotional ineptitude. (Well, okay, the emotional ineptitude can be fun, but ouchie on the other two.) Either way, you can’t read YnM fic without reading Asidian’s. It would just be… wrong.

  • The Adventures of Captain Oblivious and Standoffish Boy ~ Tsuzuki and Hisoka are our heroes, backed by a cast including Tatsumi the butler, Watari the advisor, and Muraki the arch nemesis. Standoffish Boy wants his revenge, but Captain Oblivious has more sinister fish to fry. (PG-13, Yaoi implications. Utter insanity).

  • The Incident With the Owl ~ The original 003 fic. Another experiment, another explosion, skyrocketing supplies costs... and 003 manages to spread the results. Will the shinigami be able to handle being completely honest with one another? Can Watari -fix- it? (His x Tsu, Tats x Wat, PG-13, lightly implied possible citrus…) Chapters 1-4 are all in one file, because they’re itty bitty and it’s better for everyone’s sanity not to have to click around at the end of each section.

  • Naked ~ Just when nightmares of the past threaten to become too much for Hisoka, he and Tsuzuki get some unexpected time off. Hisoka suspects that his partner wants a trip to Earth for the food, but Tsuzuki has something else in mind. (PG, Shounen ai. Tsu x Hi. Sap)

  • Of a Future ~ Years before the start of the series, Hisoka struggles to control his powers... if only to block out the hatred that he's come to know so well. (PG, Angst)

  • Outside Looking In ~ Certain that he has a fail proof formula, Watari makes Hisoka a potion to dampen his empathy around crowds. And it would have worked. But... no one counted on Tsuzuki helping himself to the rest. (PG-13, Tsu x His. Angst, romance, past NCS implications)

    Parts 1-3 ~ Parts 4-6 ~ Parts 7-9

  • Rest of Forever ~ Fighting his way through an assignment with no evidence to start from, Hisoka falls into Muraki's hands. Tsuzuki would give anything to get his partner back... but the doctor doesn't seem interested in bargains. (PG-13 Angst,yaoi,Hisoka-torture.)

  • Understanding ~ Finally confronted with someone that cares about him, Hisoka finds himself wondering if life-- and love-- are the way he's always believed. (PG-13, Tsuzuki x Hisoka, Shounen ai)
